As much as you love sleeping over at Luke’s, you find yourself enjoying waking up at there that much more. Instead of the blare of your alarm clock or the stomping of your upstairs neighbors, you wake up to the quiet sounds of a suburban neighborhood and the soft snores leaving Luke’s lips. Instead of the blistering sun pouring through your window, you feel the gentle breeze of a ceiling fan keeping you cool. Instead of feeling every ounce of the heavy black and red duvet you bought your junior year of college and probably should’ve replaced by now, you barely feel the weight of the cream colored quilt that covers Luke’s plush bed. Instead of feeling alone in the sea of pillows decorating your bed, you feel surrounded by love and warmth with Luke’s arms wrapped around your waist.
You rarely stay at Luke’s during the week, a mutual decision to keep the both of you on some sort of schedule and leave you with as little temptation to skip work and stay in bed all day as possible. On the weekends, when you do allow yourself to sleep over, it’s rare that Luke is awake before you. Your body naturally forces you awake, pulls you from your slumber far too soon, and leaves you lying beside Luke. You use that time to catch up on news you might’ve missed, scroll through your social media accounts, browse the internet, or take in the softness of Luke’s sleeping face. He looks so much younger, so carefree and angelic, when he’s asleep and it warms your heart to see him so vulnerable.
But there are rare mornings that Luke wakes up before you.
